After being denied by two studios, he received $8.5 million from 20th Century-Fox. “I realized a whole generation was growing up without fairy tales.... I wanted to do a modern fairy tale, a myth,” said the producer of Star Wars ("George Lucas," 2016). “One of the criteria of the mythical fairy tale situation is an exotic faraway land, but we've lost all the fairy lands on this planet.” Everyone, from the theaters, to the people, to even the actors starring in the movie, doubted that Star Wars would be a success. But it was, and he (and others) went on to create two sequels and three prequels for the movie. After the final movie was complete, Lucas wasn’t going to make any more. Yet, on October 30th, 2012, Disney offered to pay $4.05 billion for the Star Wars franchise and all of Lucasfilm. George Lucas accepted, and Disney later announced that they were making five more movies in addition to the saga. With American Graffiti, Lucas had a very low budget, so it was very risky to make the movie. But, he was being responsible by making a very good movie without going over the budget he was given. With Star Wars, everyone thought Lucas’ idea of space battles between magical glow-stick welding yahoos was completely absurd, so it was a very dangerous risk he was running. Yet, Lucas was responsible because he felt that there were no more myths or fairy tales, and he created one, which, as everyone knows, was extremely successful in the film world.
